prices list holds one row per source and state with ex_showroom_inr, optional high_inr (the top of a band), source_kind (maker, dealer, reported, estimate), state_code and observed_at. Listing rows summarise the best available figure as price_from_inr, price_to_inr, price_kind and price_as_of.
Rules we ask you to keep: a reported or estimate figure is shown with a star or the word, never as the maker’s price; a band is shown as a band; the date travels with the figure.
A variant’s sheet also carries on_road: the on-road figure for one state, computed on the national ex-showroom price from the state’s own road tax rule, its cess lines, the central registration fees, the third-party insurance base premium and FASTag. A dealer’s own state quote, where one exists, wins over the computed figure. Ask another state with /variants/{slug}/on-road?state=MH; add lang=hi or lang=ta and every label and note comes in that language.
The on-road rules
/on-road/rules returns the whole table: every state and union territory, each rule a list of bands by gross weight, load capacity, unladen weight or seats, and each band one of a share of the cost (one time, or a share every period), a fixed amount, an amount a seat, an amount a tonne, or a base plus an amount a step, for one time or a period. The figure due at registration is the first period; the recurring one rides beside it as recurring_inr. A state’s electric exemption carries its start and end dates and is read on the day you ask. Every rule names its source: the state’s Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, an amending Act or a notification, with its number and date, under the state’s sources. A figure no official text could be found for is left out and listed under the state’s unsourced, never guessed; for a vehicle a state’s published rules do not cover, on_road offers no figure for that state and states lists only the states it does.
/on-road/states lists the states with a published rule, in display order. launched_at on a variant is the maker’s launch date, which drives the new-launch tracker; lifecycle tells on_sale from discontinued, and a discontinued variant keeps its last listed ex-showroom figure.
